Words for Life


An initiative of the UK National Literacy Trust, Words for Life gives you an idea of what communication milestones your baby and child might reach as they grow. Includes ideas for fun activities, book suggestions and much more.

Better Beginnings


A Western Australia initiative supported by the State Library of WA. Better Beginnings aims to develop literacy skills in young children through fostering a love of books and language. 

Reach Out & Read


A US evidence-based nonprofit organization of medical providers who promote early literacy & school readiness by giving new books to children & advice to parents about the importance of reading aloud.

Raising Readers


 A national literacy campaign focused on building reading skills at home, at school, in child care, and in the community. Includes tv programs, games, websites, & easy-to-use learning resources.

An Australian government initiative promoting and supporting reading & storytelling with children on the premise that it helps language, literacy and brain development.

The Reading Agency


 A UK charity whose mission is to give everyone an equal chance in life by helping people become confident and enthusiastic readers.  Offers lots of great reading programs and activities.

National Reading Campaign


A Canadian initiative with the mission to make reading a national priority. Lots of great resources, acitvities and links to research. The site is availabe in English and French.



The Center for Early Literacy Learning (CELL) is a US organisation that promotes the adoption and sustained use of evidence-based early literacy learning practices.

Trelease on Reading


The website of Jm Trelease, author of The Read Aloud Handbook has extensive information about the importance of reading aloud and lots of suggestions for great read-aloud books.
